Here is Maisy named after the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  Her puppies are Abe, Susie and Rose.  Maisy gave birth in our house and honestly, we did nothing.  She gave birth overnight and we woke up to these beautiful puppies next to her.

From left to right, we have Susie, Rose and Abe.

    Mermaid litter – February 2020

When the Mermaid litter was rescued in February 2020, Ariel, the mama was so nervous and skeptical of us.  She did not trust anyone or anything.  She was three years old when we took her home with her four puppies: three boys (all beige) and a girl (white and spots of beige).

Ariel looked at us like there is no way you are getting anywhere near me to my puppies.

It took a few hours but after a bit, she started to trust us once she was properly fed and had some water, along with a safe place to keep her pups.

It was almost a sense of relief once she was able to trust us.

Look at this pile of puppies.

Lots of exercise outdoors for them too.

  • Angel and puppies – March 2020

Angel and puppies – March 2020

This is Angel and her puppies.  She is a puppy herself at less than one year old.  They told us she was 9 months old when we went to go rescue her with her one day old puppies.  She has five boys and one girl.  Angel was just 7 lbs when she was pregnant with all her puppies so she was severely malnourished and she was so frightened when we first brought her home.  In fact, she bit at us and was super protective but in time, with lots of hug, she learned to trust us and feel more comfortable.  She and the puppies are all thriving and doing great.

This was her freedom ride home On March 13, 2020.

She was really nervous and skeptical of any humans.  She had her puppies just the night before we picked her up.

Here is a pic of a one day old puppy.

She’s starting to gamin some weight.

    Now, she’s much happier.

    A Midsummer Night’s Dream

We have had Summer with us for a couple of weeks. So timid at first, got to know us as time went by and even played well with the other puppies and moms in the house. On Monday at 10 PM she went into labor.

  • Tennis Litter

    Tennis Litter

March 25th we welcomed in some new friends Martina, Venus, and Serena. These three were brought to a local shelter after being found in the street. It was unsure how long they had been without a home, but mommy ‘Tina’ was in great need of some grooming and TLC.

Her girls are quite big in comparison to mom’s size, so we were thinking the dad is a larger dog with quite different coloring perhaps a brindle boxer or something similar.

Here is what Tina looks like after some weeks of love and a few good grooming sessions.

  • Animal Rescuer

    Animal Rescuer

    animal-rescuer

What does it mean to be an animal rescuer?  I can only explain based on our own experiences.  To see a mama dog come from an animal shelter with her puppies to the first time is when we are first introduced.   Many times, she will be protective, perhaps irritable, hungry, tired and even exhausted.  Those first few hours are not usually reflective of her personality.  When we receive the rescue animals, we provide a warm, safe place to stay, food and water.  We greet with open palms, open hearts and big hugs.   We try our very best to give them all a bath within the first 24 hours to get rid of fleas, ticks, and to closely observe for abuse and clear away any matted hair.   The puppies are usually sleeping but mama recovers within the first 24 to 48 hours.  Just to have quiet is a relief for her.  Trust is important to establish right away so she knows we are on her side.  To see the transformation of each litter from when they come to us to when they are about to leave us for their forever homes is why we do this.  They narrowly escape life threatening situations and are ultimately matched to their own human families.  Sooooo…..it is my job to assist all God’s creatures.  I take on new family members without plan, thought or selection.  I have bought dog food (and treats, leashes, and collars) with my last dime.  I have patted many mangy heads with my bare hands…..with knee deep baths with what started as clean water and ended with black, muddy, flea infested water.  I have hugged someone “vicious” and afraid.  Once that hug is given and accepted, there is no more “viciousness”.   Just one mama hugging another mama.  I have fallen in love a thousand times and I have cried (hard) into the fur of a lifeless puppy.  I am an animal rescuer.  My work is never done.   My home is never quiet.  My wallet is always empty but my heart is always full.  We save each other.  Thank you for the opportunity to touch one paw at a time.
